Our Citroen Story

Passion for the brand, connection to place
When Kevin Egan sealed the deal for Kevin Egan Cars to become the primary Citroen
dealership in the North West, he knew just the man he wanted to run it for him.
“When we started talking about how we would build the brand locally, the first person who
came to mind was Ronan Hunt. At the time he was working elsewhere but when I told him
that I was reviving the Citroen brand in Sligo, his enthusiasm was instant and I knew we
needed to get him on board,” says Kevin.
Now the Citroen Brand Manager at Kevin Egan Cars, Ronan’s connection to Citroen
stretches back to childhood when his father, Tom Hunt, owned a previous Citroen
dealership in Castlebaldwin.
“I remember Citroen cars always being in our driveway. From a very young age, I was always
fascinated by the unique style and design of a Citroen car,” says Ronan.
“Citroen is different. It doesn’t look or drive like anything on the road. Every car company
wants to make a comfortable car, but Citroen is known for making compact cars with
relaxation and individuality in mind. That’s why the brand motto is, ‘For everyone, like-
none.” The brand has evolved since I was a kid, but the idea hasn’t changed. Citroen is the
people’s car. No-one makes cars like Citroen.”
The neat symmetry of time and circumstances extends not just to staff but customers, too.
Recently, Ronan celebrated landing his new role with Kevin Egan Cars by selling a brand new
Citroen C5 Aircross C-Series to long-time friend Dave Caplin. Dave had bought his first car, a
green Citroen Saxo, from Tom Hunt in 2003.
“That Dave would return to Citroen to fulfil his need for three individual rear seats and plug-
in hybrid technology, and that it would be a Hunt on hand to help him, shows that the more
things change, the more they stay the same,” says Kevin.
He adds: “Passion for the brand and connection to place are the values that we try to
uphold and live by. Ronan’s appointment is totally in keeping with that philosophy, and it’s
from this platform that we hope to reach greater heights in the future.”
Kevin’s sense of serendipity was made complete when, after growing fond of a desk in the
temporary office space he’d been renting during the construction of his new facility on the
Old Dublin Road, he enquired about purchasing it from the owner.
“The owner told me that he would be reluctant to let it go because he knew the previous
owner – Tom Hunt, Ronan’s father. Thankfully, when I explained the situation, he agreed to
sell so it can be in what really feels like its rightful place,!” says Kevin.
